There’s a theory expounded that in any event report, if the writer mentions the weather then they’re struggling for things to say. Of course, that’s not the case about the VMCC’s Banbury Run, but fact of the matter is, it’s not possible to report on the event, on June 18, without commenting on the scorching nature of the sun. It was hot. The hottest day of the year so far, by some margin, made sure a memorable day for many was suitably sun-kissed.
After a few years of not riding at Banbury, this year I’d decided to once again participate. I enjoy riding best of all, but trying to get around and speak to as many people as I want to do, as well as cram in a 60-plus mile ride in, mean it’s a fairly frantic few hours. Add to that a 5.30am departure, and 30 degree heat, and I confess that by the time I arrived home on Sunday evening, it had been a long day. A good day, but long.
