Jonathan Tye to guest at this year’s Moidart Run

by

Organisers Andy Johnstone and John McCrink are pleased to announce that the guest of honour for the Moidart Peninsula Classic Road Run is Derbyshire trials and scrambles ace and Moidart Run stalwart Jonathan Tye.

Jonathan is the younger of two motorcycling brothers who both achieved much success in careers that started back in the late 1940s. Jonathan will always tell you that he envied his late big brother David’s supreme riding ability – however, David was equally envious of Jonathan’s RAF flying career.

Jonathan was genuinely pleased to be asked to be the guest of honour, but such is his admiration for David (who he describes as not just a brother but his best friend) that he accepted this honour in David’s memory.

Among Jonathan’s many successes were East Midlands Trials and Scrambles Champion and winner of the SSDT 150cc Cup in 1958. He was also RAF trials champion seven times over and competed in the ISDT British Vase Team in 1968 and 1969. His brother had numerous successful performances for Great Britain in the ISDT and only missed out on the 1952 title by a single mark.

Both brothers rode for major factories, Jonathan for Francis-Barnett and David for Douglas and BSA.

As ever, the Moidart Run precedes the Scottish Six Days Trial and will be held on Thursday, May 2 in Kinlochleven.
