Although competing with numerous other attractions, the formula of offering 'something for everyone' was spectacularly successful. The organisers were obliged to close the gates on Sunday, with the location filled to capacity and gridlock on the surrounding roads.
The 'wheels' element of the show attracts cars, commercial and military vehicles as well as a growing motorcycle interest. While some owners are happy to join the static display, many others are keen for the twice-daily opportunity for a flat-out blind down the main runway with a speed trap at the end. Among the older bikes, Geoff Smithers enjoyed exercising his 1947 Manx, John Blenkinsop his 1940 Indian 'Flat-track' racer and John Kennedy had the Vincent Owners' Club Comet sprint special. John Young was back out on his Triumph-JAP, having just returned from a Bonneville Speed Week mission abandoned due to flooded salt flats.
