Patient, energetic, enthusiastic, competitive and with a gift for communication, Alan needed all those qualities in 1985 when, with Alex Brett, he established the first International West Kent Run.
It eventually became one of the Vintage MCCs major events, but for the first run Alan was organiser, treasurer, route marker and participant.

Even when he faced serious illness, he remained upbeat and positive until the last, finally passing away in April at 57 years old. Alan is survived by his wife Alison and his son James.
